Titus Welliver’s 8-Part Crime Thriller Is Officially a 100-Day Streaming Hit, Outlasting Mayor of Kingstown—Forget Renewal

A long run on MGM+

The Westies recently reached 100 days on the MGM+ Top 10 Overall chart, which includes movies and television shows. FlixPatrol data says the series has been trending for 104 days.

It has the longest streak on the chart, ahead of Cold Storage, which has appeared for 75 days. The Westies currently ranks eighth among the service’s most popular titles, above Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, Tombstone and Cold Storage. Treasure Island, an adventure series featuring David Oyelowo and Hayley Atwell, is at the top of the daily chart.

Welliver’s crime drama roles

Welliver has built a substantial crime-drama résumé, including his portrayal of detective Harry Bosch in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. He also appeared as a guest in the spin-off Ballard.

His other crime television credits include Dark Winds, The Equalizer, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and The Mentalist. The Westies is his latest series in the genre, with J. K. Simmons and Tom Brittney among its cast.

The show is a mob drama on MGM+. Its first season premiered on July 12 with two episodes, then released the remaining episodes weekly, ending on August 23.

Renewal remains undecided

MGM+ has not announced a second season for The Westies. The series’ future therefore remains uncertain despite its long chart run. The show has a 74% critics’ score and a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Those ratings and its streaming performance offer reasons for optimism, but a second season has not been confirmed. Several cast members have expressed hopes for another season in comments to ScreenRant, with a return dependent on approval.
