Three players expected back at practice as commanders monitor javon kinlaw, who needs more time

Three players nearing practice returns

Quinn said backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, defensive lineman Charles Omenihu and receiver Treylon Burks will return to practice. Each player is taking a next step in the recovery process, but that does not confirm they will play Sunday.

Omenihu missed games against the Giants and 49ers while dealing with groin and ankle issues. His return to practice could help a defensive line that has been managing injuries.

Kinlaw continues knee rehabilitation

Quinn said Kinlaw is not progressing as quickly as the team had hoped. The defensive lineman will keep working and rehabbing his knee. Quinn also discussed Jacory Croskey-Merritt, saying groin injuries mean the team will wait until he is fully healthy and strong before he gets going.

Mariota offers quarterback experience

Mariota’s return is significant because Washington did not expect to need Athan Kaliakmanis this early. The team still lost the game, but Mariota’s presence at practice gives Washington an experienced option behind Jayden Daniels.

Quinn also said the Commanders are cracking down on pre-snap penalties after the bye week. He described them as “self-inflicted wounds,” and players could be benched if the mistakes continue.

Key points

  • Mariota, Omenihu and Burks are expected back at practice.
  • Kinlaw will continue rehabbing his knee after slower-than-hoped progress.
  • Practice returns do not guarantee any player will suit up Sunday.
  • Quinn warned that continued pre-snap penalties could lead to players being benched.
