After Ramaswamy attack ad, Acton says Trump and Vance should look at facts about abuse

Acton responds to ad defense

In an ABC News interview Saturday, Acton said she hoped Trump and Vance would examine the facts about the abuse she says she endured. She said her work is to solve problems with people across party lines, rather than create them.

Trump dismissed questions about the abuse allegations this week, saying the ad had “nothing to do” with Acton’s stepfather. Vance told Ohio rallygoers he was “a little bit disgusted” by Republicans criticizing the ad more than Democratic policies.

Abuse allegations and case

Acton said she and her brother experienced “extreme child abuse and neglect” during childhood. She also offered support to people currently experiencing abuse, urging them to hold on and speak to someone they trust.

DeWine criticizes the ad

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called the ad “deeply, deeply troubling” on Thursday and said Ramaswamy’s campaign “needs to take it down.” DeWine did not withdraw his endorsement of Ramaswamy.

Acton praised DeWine for addressing the facts, saying he knew her story and had worked as a prosecutor. She said he understood the case better than others.

Obama joins Ohio campaign

Acton campaigned Saturday with former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is seeking to win back his seat, and former President Barack Obama. Obama was the last Democratic presidential candidate to carry Ohio, in 2012.

Obama criticized Trump’s administration on issues including the economy, immigration and the war in Iran. He also attacked Ramaswamy, saying the candidate’s supporters knew he was acting for personal gain and accusing him of crossing limits for attention.
