Germany: Novice driver sparks emergency at Leipzig airport after fence breach

Fence breach prompts security response
The two men, aged 20 and 32, turned themselves in to police on Sunday evening. Airport staff had discovered the damaged fence late Saturday, police said. Police said the 20-year-old was driving without a valid license. He is under investigation for fleeing after the breach. Bild reported that investigators found fragments of an Audi at the site.
Airport operations have returned to normal. In August, an explosives-laden drone was found near Ukrainian cargo planes at the airport. German officials accused Russia of planning an attack; Moscow denied the allegation.
Rheinmetall acquires Romanian shipyard
Rheinmetall said it bought Romania’s Mangalia shipyard at auction with Swiss shipping company MSC for about €138 million ($154 million). The acquisition is expected to be finalized within weeks.
The partners plan to develop the Black Sea facility near Constanța for civilian and military shipbuilding. Rheinmetall said its Naval Systems division will build four vessels ordered by the Romanian government: two 96-meter offshore patrol vessels and two 43-meter diving support vessels. Rheinmetall also plans to modernize the yard and expand its capacity.
Iranian ambassador summoned in Germany
A Hamburg court sentenced a 54-year-old man to 8 1/2 years in prison and a 43-year-old man to 4 1/2 years. The court said their spying on Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, and Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli Society, was preparation for terrorist attacks, including planned killings.
