Mexico arrests five cartel members linked to murders of 10 Canadian mining company workers

Five men detained
Authorities in Mexico announced on Sunday that five men had been arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of the 10 mining company workers in the country’s northwest. The victims were later discovered in clandestine graves. Among them were two engineers and a geologist.
Family identifies one victim
Jaime Castañeda told CBC News that on Sunday he identified his brother’s body through photographs shown by local officials in Mazatlán. His brother, José Manuel Castañeda Hernández, was 43 and had two children.
Mistaken identity alleged
In June, Mexico reported arresting another suspect, Gabriel N., known as Gabito, whom authorities described as a hitman for the same faction. Washington has designated the Sinaloa cartel a terrorist organization.
Disappearances across Mexico
Abductions by armed groups are common in Mexico, where more than 120,000 people have disappeared since the 1950s. Many of those missing are believed to have been abducted and killed by drug cartels.
