Police funding and jail remarks put transcript of Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon in focus

Nixon’s policy agenda

Margaret Brennan asked Nixon about joining the Democratic Socialists of America during her primary campaign and what drew her to the organization. Brennan also cited CBS polling in which 42% of Americans viewed socialism somewhat or very negatively, and asked Nixon to explain her vision.

Brennan listed proposals associated with Nixon’s platform: Medicare for all, a national rent stabilization standard, a higher federal minimum wage, abolishing ICE and a 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires. She asked how Nixon would work with Republicans if elected while a Republican president was in office.

Questions on party support

Brennan referred to Nixon’s September comments to MS Now that the Democratic Party could do more to help her. Nixon had pointed to Florida’s large Black population and said some people were hesitant to fund Black women in the South after Vice President Harris lost.

Brennan mentioned Nixon’s campaigning with Bernie Sanders and Senator Chris Murphy, then asked whether Nixon was now receiving the help she needed. The transcript does not include Nixon’s response to that question.

Dispute over opponent

Brennan also challenged Nixon over saying Moody should be jailed and punished, asking whether such language suggested a desire to weaponize the justice system. She noted Nixon had said she supported continued police funding and objected to her opponent accusing her of wanting to defund the police.

Interview closes

Brennan thanked Nixon for joining the program and said the show would follow the race in November. The interview aired on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” on Oct. 18, 2026.
