After Zacharia’s departure, disgraced George Santos makes pitch for Trump’s press secretary role
Santos offers to serve
Former Republican Representative George Santos put himself forward Friday for the White House press secretary position. His offer followed the announcement that Katie Zacharia was leaving the role.
Santos said he would “jump to serve,” according to the report. The opening emerged after a White House official said Zacharia was transitioning out of her position.
Zacharia’s brief tenure
Trump told reporters that he had advised Zacharia to reconsider her job. Her time in the role lasted five days, making her the shortest-serving White House press secretary on record.
Before making his own pitch, Santos attacked Hannity over the host’s questioning of Zacharia’s legal qualifications in an interview Thursday. Santos used profane language in a social media post, then later called on followers to unfollow people who treated Hannity as a social standard.
Santos’s legal history
Santos has faced further controversy since leaving office. In August, prediction market platform Kalshi barred him for life, citing his failure to cooperate with an investigation into wagers concerning this year’s State of the Union address.
