After brief truce ends, Ukraine resumes attacks on Russian refineries, officials say

Strike hits Ryazan refinery
The drone attack began a fire at a refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region, about 300 kilometers (180 miles) southeast of Moscow. Russia’s Defense Ministry and regional Gov. Pavel Malkov reported the fire, while the Russian outlet Astra posted an image it said showed the blaze.
A senior Ukrainian official, speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to comment publicly, confirmed that Ukraine had struck the refinery. The attack followed Zelenskyy’s statement that the brief truce was over.
Truce falters amid energy attacks
Zelenskyy said Ukraine had observed President Donald Trump’s demand for both sides to stop attacks on energy infrastructure. Ukraine’s government said it was honoring the ceasefire, while Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy sites continued.
The Ukrainian president said the ongoing bombardment prompted him to resume strikes on Russian oil refineries. In a Financial Times interview published Thursday, he said, “We’re done,” referring to Ukraine’s patience.
Relations with Washington worsen
Kyiv says it recently lost access to its usual Western intelligence on Russian ballistic missile attacks and faced limits on U.S.-made Starlink terminals. Ukrainian officials said the speed restrictions hindered efforts to defend the country and strike back. Trump has said the United States has not stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Zelenskyy said he felt betrayed by Trump’s agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to import Russian diesel, as well as by the truce announcement and Starlink problems. Zelenskyy said, “We are losing a strong partner” in the United States.
Russian attack kills three
Ukraine’s Emergency Services said a Russian drone attack lasting more than 10 hours hit the central Kirovohrad region on Thursday. Three people were killed and six were injured.
