Russell Brand accuser says alleged rape left her afraid she may be pregnant

Meeting at the conference

The woman told the jury she met Brand in 1999, before he became famous. She said she had attended a Labour Party conference and spoke with him at a fringe event.

She alleges that Brand later raped her in a hotel. The allegations are among those made by six female complainants over a 10-year period from 1999 to 2009. Brand denies the charges.

Her account of the encounter

In her account, the woman said she came out of the bathroom and saw Brand wearing briefs, which she said shocked her. She also recalled that he was shirtless and asked her to take photographs of him before the alleged attack.

She described Brand jumping around and behaving playfully, comparing his movements to Basil Fawlty’s goose steps. She said she was not laughing and remembered wondering what she had got herself into.

Evidence and courtroom

During a police interview, the woman cried as she described what had happened as something “dirty,” according to her evidence. She said she had later questioned whether it was rape because, in her words, “it was so normal.” Brand watched a screen attached to the dock during the video evidence, rarely looking away and moving little, the report said.
