Katie Zacharia Becomes Trump’s Press Secretary: Meet All 6 Across Both Terms
A role with frequent turnover
Trump has hired six White House press secretaries across his two terms, and three served for less than a year. Sean Spicer held the job for 182 days, the shortest tenure among them.
Presidents often go through several press secretaries because the role is demanding. Barack Obama had three during his two terms, while Bill Clinton and George W. Bush each had four.
First-term press secretaries
Sarah Huckabee Sanders served from July 2017 to July 2019, just under two years. During the final months, she largely stopped holding formal White House briefings. Stephanie Grisham held the position from July 2019 to April 2020 and did not conduct a traditional press briefing. She later criticized Trump and discussed her time in his administration at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
Zacharia takes over
Trump named Zacharia as Leavitt’s successor in a Truth Social post on October 9. He praised her support and loyalty and called her a “devoted fan and member of MAGA.” Zacharia held her first briefing on Tuesday. The White House referred Business Insider to communications director Steven Cheung’s earlier description of her as “a fabulous and wonderful addition to the team.”
