Saudi Arabia: Deadly Houthi strikes on Riyadh airport fuel fears of wider Middle East conflict

Houthi attacks over the weekend struck Riyadh’s international airport, killing 14 people and injuring more than 300. Saudi authorities suspended airport operations, disrupting flights.

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said the attacks had tested the country’s infrastructure, institutions and resilience. Speaking at a Riyadh conference, he called for a response matching the seriousness of events.

China condemned the strikes on Saudi airports and energy infrastructure. Its Foreign Ministry said it was concerned about the conflict’s escalation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis.

The violence has fuelled concern about a broader regional conflict. Airstrikes hit Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and the Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia; US President Donald Trump is weighing possible military action against the group.
