Teenager arrested after two teachers shot in French school

A student was arrested Monday after a principal and a teacher were shot at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, near Marseille.
Mayor Jean-Pierre Squillari said the two staff members had injuries that were not life-threatening. No children were hurt.
The pupil, described as being in ninth grade, entered the school grounds with a gun and fired several shots, according to local officials. A staff member restrained the student in a corridor before police took the pupil into custody.
Officials said many students were emotionally affected, although most saw little of the incident. A psychologist was assessing children who appeared distressed.
The mayor said the student’s father had sought a meeting with the school’s educational adviser, but authorities said they had no further information about the circumstances. The investigation is ongoing.
