Two Carlton players treated in hospital after off-season night out

Club issues brief statement about Lachie Cowan and Will Hayward, saying latter suffered minor cut to head after a fall

An off-season night out for Carlton football club teammates ended with two players admitted to hospital for treatment on Sunday morning, in what the club says are “separate circumstances”.

The club statement said Cowan had “received medical treatment and underwent observation, before being discharged a short time later” but did not provide any more information about the circumstances.

“Will Hayward experienced a minor cut to the head after a fall, and admitted himself to hospital where he received stitches before being discharged,” Carlton said.

“The club has been in regular contact with both players, with priority for their wellbeing and both players have now received the necessary care relating to their separate circumstances.”

A man in his 20s was taken by ambulance to the Alfred hospital in stable condition, Ambulance Victoria said.
