Democrat Chris Pappas says "we

Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas said Sunday that his campaign is preparing for a difficult contest as Election Day nears. He is running for the U.S. Senate in New Hampshire.

Pappas, a member of the House since 2019, faces former Republican Sen. John Sununu. The race could influence which party controls the Senate, though CBS News rates the state as leaning Democratic.

Pappas pointed to New Hampshire’s narrow 2016 Senate result and Sununu’s family history in state politics. Sununu previously served in both chambers of Congress and lost his Senate reelection bid to Jeanne Shaheen in 2008.

Sununu has highlighted past disagreements with President Donald Trump and kept distance from him on the campaign trail. Pappas, however, argues that Sununu’s campaign is connected to Trump’s broader agenda.

Pappas said Democrats should prioritize people’s economic difficulties if they regain control of Congress. On immigration enforcement, he has called for reforms, while some Democrats support abolishing ICE. The campaign continues as voters approach Election Day.
