News Wrap: Trump announces diesel deal with Russia

President Donald Trump said the United States had reached an agreement for Russia to supply diesel, a shift from years of U.S. pressure on Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Trump said Russia would provide an initial shipment of more than 300,000 tons, followed by further deliveries, including 500,000 tons in November and one million tons afterward.

The announcement comes after Trump signed a broad Russia sanctions law last month. He said the diesel deal was aimed at addressing high fuel prices ahead of U.S. midterm elections.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the decision, calling U.S. business with Russia weak, according to CBC.
